چکیده
Connectivity between populations is important when considering conservation or the management of exploitation vulnerable species. We investigated how a broadcast-spawning marine species (scallop, Pecten maximus) that occur in discrete geographic locations were connected to each other. Population genetic insights related outputs from three-dimensional hydrodynamic model implemented with scallop larval behaviour understand extent which these areas linked by oceanographic processes and this was altered season two contrasting years had strongly different average temperature records (warm vs cold) provide conditions. Our results span regional shelf scale. high at level (e.g. northern Irish Sea), but lower scales >100 km sites. Some localities possibly isolated thus dependent on self-recruitment sustain local populations. Seasonal timing spawning inter-annual fluctuations seawater influenced connectivity patterns, hence will affect spatial recruitment. Summer rather than spring increased among some populations, due seasonal strengthening temperature-driven currents. Furthermore, warm year resulted higher levels modelled cold year. The combination approaches provided valuable into structure continental This insight provides powerful basis for defining units appropriate scale management. Temporal impact upon variability connectivity, suggesting future work should account ocean warming investigating population resilience.
